Important: New NIXI requirements for .IN domains starting December 5, 2025

The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) has announced significant changes to the rules for registering and renewing .IN domains. The new requirements will take effect on December 5, 2025 and apply only to .IN domains.
What is changing
- Mandatory e-KYC verification
Every .IN domain owner must complete electronic identity verification (e-KYC). Verification will be required for new registrations, renewals, and contact updates. Domains that fail verification will be placed on SERVERHOLD, making them inactive until the process is completed.
- Restrictions for non-Indian registrants
Individuals and organizations based in India may register .IN domains as usual. Registrants outside India may be required to provide proof of connection to India or transfer the domain to a registrar that accepts foreign registrants.

- These changes apply only to .IN domains.
- e-KYC will be mandatory for all .IN domain owners.
- Foreign owners may need to transfer their domain if they cannot meet NIXI requirements.
